My Story

My name is Mable, a mom, cook, daughter and lover of food. I am an African. Born and raised in Uganda (East African and now Based in Detroit, Michigan for 25 years.

I LOVE to cook for others delicious homemade meals that will take them back to their childhood kitchen. For me this is of course African foods, Matooke, Samosas, Kabaggala, Ugali and Fish. yes, if you don’t know these foods, then you need to try them on my menu. I of course cook regular American food too if that’s what you like

I went to school Craft community college in Livonia, Michigan and got my credentials and certificates from there.

Why "Mable's Kitchen'? I was asked this question many times & the answers are quite simple. It's a friendly, comfortable, old traditional name. It’s also my name given to me by my mother.

It means a precious stone.

This means all people served in Mable's kitchen are precious and will be treated that way.

I started cooking from home (Uganda), when I was seven years old. I was trained at home by maids, my mom's sister and of course the boarding schools that I spent most months. I developed the love to cook and clean after all the mess.

During my high school and college vacation, my Aunty had 2 restaurants where I worked many hours. and I developed the love to work with people and be around people. I am passionate about everything around a kitchen, food, the people, the ingredients even the mess and rhythm of cleaning up

Anyways, "Mable's Kitchen" is the perfect place to rise & shine with the new spins of exotic African cuisines and of cause other dishes, like American, French, Italian etc.

"Mable's Kitchen" caters in house & off premises for events, birthdays, engagements
